The Romans who created the first civilization covering the entire Western world were aware of their achievements. In addition, they were impressed by the wealth of Greek mythology. In fact, they almost completely adapted it, identifying many Italian deities with the gods of the Greek pantheon.

The case was similar with legends, which were to some extent connected with the great Greek myths. However, many myths aroused resistance from the Romans, and therefore, as a rule, they tried to limit the Greek extravaganza. Mention can be made of the Greek myth of Dionysus, the god of vegetation, wine and ecstatic dance, which became a source of serious difficulties in Rome.
